I felt cute last Friday. Maybe it was the fact that my eyeliner went on with little fuss or smudging (amazing considering that I apply it on the bus — true story!), or that my hair wasn’t as frizzy as it is usually. Was it the pair of insane wedges I wore around the office that day? My favorite yellow stone necklace paired so fetchingly with a lavender t-shirt and bootcut jeans? In any case, I felt cute. Did I look cute? Maybe.
The important thing is that I felt it, and then it felt like it was true.
Before I start this Couch-to-5K thingie, I had to make sure I was outfitted properly. Now, thanks to the magic of Polyvore, you can see for yourself that I am. People of the lakefront, you’ve been warned.

I understand that I’m wearing is a black t-shirt and a denim skirt but isn’t so much more exciting now that I’m wearing a too-sparkly-for-daytime-wear necklace and French designer shoes?
This outfit is pretty cute, right? Yeah, I think so too.
This needs more accessories. A charm bracelet? Those are ¾ sleeves on that cardigan, after all. Actually, more than anything, I need a manicure and a pedicure as I haven’t gotten my nails done since Lisa and Eddie’s wedding. Which was back in NOVEMBER.
We’ll talk more later about why I’m looking all girly today. I swear!
It feels weird to say “Happy Ash Wedneday!” because it is not a happy occasion. It’s the start of Lent, ranking somewhere between Good Friday and Easter on the Catholic party scale.
Maybe it would be better to ask if people are recovering from their Mardi Gras hangovers or in need of some Pepto Bismol after stuffing themselves with pancakes for Pancake Tuesday. Yes, I know they are the same holiday, but I like that you can celebrate the same day in very different ways. Or combine the two, even. Hurricanes and pancakes? Sign me up.
I ended up doing neither, as I got a last minute invitation to join Elisa and Maurel at the preview of Primebar Chicago. Free food, and the restaurant is 2.5 blocks from the office. It was a done deal. More on the meal in a bit.
This is what I wore to Eddie & Lisa’s wedding Saturday night. In case you were wondering? Were you wondering? I hope so.
- The rhinestone rose was not a ring but actually a pair of bobby pins. I parted my hair on the right, using the pins to keep back my hair on the left. It looked alright but I could have used a professional styling for more volume and better definition.
- My actual pashmina is not quite that pink – more beige.
- The shoes were alright but I really wanted these Ralph Lauren Mary Janes that I could not find in my size except on-line. Not a big deal as everybody kicked off their shoes eventually to dance.
- It is almost sickening how little the dress cost. More about that below.
