The thing I like about spending Christmas with Joe and Jacinda and Jacinda’s family is that I feel like family, too. I’d always feel guilty about wanting to spend Christmas with them, but who wouldn’t? They’re funny and only slightly nuts like all good families are and at Christmas dinner you can have as much shrimp cocktail as you want. I think I needed all of that, this year especially, what with the not having a job and all.

Can we just take a minute to watch this video and marvel at how wonderful this song is?
Okay, take another minute. It’s so worth it.
I think by now you’re probably wondering what I did this weekend, so let’s begin.
Had a lovely day. First at breakfast, then at the Dunes (my first visit!), and lastly at home lying in bed watching cable. I’ll tell you all about it but first I have to wash more sand and sunscreen off of myself.
Hope your weekend was as lovely as mine.
Or why Jacinda will always be funnier than me.
My mom said: “Hello, little one!” and [Hyacinth] said, plain as day, “hi!” My mom and I each said: “Did you hear that?” and I told her I thought she had been saying it before and my mom agreed. She says it so matter of fact, just like a grown-up. And she smiles. Also, she’s said “dog” a couple of times now when Dooley’s come in the room and she wants to get to him. Again, I thought maybe it was just coincidence, but putting it together it seems like she’s actually in the act of learning to say real words and I just wasn’t giving her credit for it. So cute! So exciting! To me. I want more words! Quite frankly, I want mama, but Hyacinth has only mouthed the sound “ma” MAYBE twice. She can barely make the “m” sound. It’s like she won’t say m’s just to spite me. At least I won’t get demands for “more.” Anyway, now that she can “parrot” I think it may be time for Joe and I to start watching our language. Damn it!
Baby said “Knock you out!”

I’m convinced that Hyacinth’s daddy may actually be LL Cool J — the hat! The clenched fists! The bedroom eyes — kidding! But for serious — doesn’t this baby look like she could kick your butt? Or at least drool on your shoulder?
In other news — the Chicago Auto Show ends this weekend! Check it out! Also, I had an awesome girls night in with Adrienne — dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab and a night at the posh James Hotel (got a good rate via Travel Zoo). These stories, and quite a few more, coming shortly. First, I gotta do some serious dishes.
