Who's your (colonial) daddy?

I miss group-blogging with friends at http://supas.blogspot.com though we never got very far with it. My favorite post, “Who’s your (colonial) daddy?”, is pretty funny. Excerpt below:

[Certain] Supa relationship patterns mimic European colonial history. I won’t name names, but if you don’t know who I’m talking about, you betta ask somebody.

England: The civilized way. Minimal drama, and even after it’s all over, you stay friends with your ex.

France: A little schizo. Sometimes things end smoothly (Senegal, Martinique). Sometimes there’s a little unpleasant drama (Quebec, Indochina). And there is also, unfortunately, the occasional Haiti (who was a hot mess to begin with, so you have only yourself to blame for that noise). Accompanied with a nice side of mind games and revisionist history.

So who’s your colonial daddy?
