- Art of Trash? Let OSCAR Decide [Ramone Rants]
- Oscar Noms Announced [Chicagoist, Gothamist, LAist]: I think LAist wins with the best title: “No Country for Hamburger Phone Milkshakes”
- Who Got Snubbed? [New York, Defamer]: Oh, I could go on and on here. I’ve got some names (which you might have already picked up from the Chicagoist link above: Imelda Staunton for HP5. Loudon Wainwright III. Michael Cera. Judd Apatow. Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg.
And I think Jeff’s right about the Best Song category. It happened last year to Dreamgirls — three terrific songs get nods, and the mediocre Melissa Ethridge song from “An Inconvenient Truth” wins instead.
Also, I’m hanging my head for Control and This Is England. I’ve also decided to stop saying anything about Juno, as Jeff thinks I am now the most cynical person on the planet. Honestly, it could probably be boiled down to professional jealousy but that would be untoward of me. More interestingly, why no foreign film nomination for Persepolis? What movie did France submit for this category? Also no nominations for Black Book? And don’t even get me started on what little color can be found this year.
