I was looking forward to looking through this slideshow of “The 20 Hottest New Faces of Comedy”, as determined by Premiere magazine. It’s slow here at the office, and most folks are already gone for the day, so I figured that taking 7 minutes (yeah, I timed myself) to flip through some pictures wasn’t going to be a big deal.
And it wasn’t, and it still is. But. I’m kinda bothered by the fact that of the 20 featured, there isn’t a single person of color. I shouldn’t be surprised, I know — it is Hollywood, after all, and it is Premiere magazine, as opposed to the multi-cultural entertainment magazine that doesn’t appear to exist specifically to appease me — but dammit, am I going to have to make up a list of “The 20 Hottest New Asian Faces of Comedy”?
Apparently. I’m having trouble thinking of 20 all by myself (yes, I know) so feel free to leave your faves in the comments.
- Mindy Kaling — Kelly from “The Office”. She writes and performs, and has an awesome shopping blog and for all of these things and many more she rules. She’s one of the few Asian people I am aware of on television who isn’t playing a scowling though silent Asian nurse (hello, “E.R.”).
- Aziz Ansari — M.I.A.-loving stand-up currently starring on MTV’s “Human Giant”, the only funny show on the network. Excuse me, make that “only funny show that’s funny on purpose”.
Seriously, this is all I’ve got. Asians (and allies of the Asians), help me out!
